“…none provided the same exceptional value as Datiris.”

We purchased Datiris as a profiling tool for the ongoing development work in the creation of our Data Warehouse. Profiling is now considered a very important component of any Data Warehousing methodology, and it certainly assists us by shortening the development process.

Understanding the very nature and structure of the data originating in source systems helps to avoid working on assumptions and costly re-development at a later stage. Even if you’re doing profiling manually, as we used to do, Datiris can greatly reduce the amount of work and time required.

We investigated some other data profiling tools (including the one provided by our current ETL vendor), but none provided the same exceptional value as Datiris.

“Datiris Profiler has brought peace of mind to our clients…”

We are using Datiris Profiler to help manage our data conversion projects. The tool provides straightforward results at the fraction of the cost of well-known data profiling tools. In conversion projects when you are dealing with million of rows and thousands of attributes to convert, discovering and managing data cleansing continues to be the challenge. The tool provides you with a simple but highly effective way that you can walk through data cleansing issues with your client while drilling down on their real data. These issues can then be tracked through resolution by using the “tags” feature of the tool.

Datiris Profiler has brought peace of mind to our clients because they finally have a product that is easy to use that gives them the ability to pull back the covers and see the true state and quality of their data.

“The whole analysis process went a lot faster…”

We are using Datiris Profiler as an aid during data loads. We load a client’s data into an Oracle schema and then run Datiris Profiler against that schema. We found that by using the information in the profiles during data analysis sessions with the client we were able to identify many things about the data, such as:

• Is a field consistently null?
• Does the field have malformed or “dirty” data, e.g. short telephone numbers, SSNs with alphas, etc.?
• What type of data is in the field? This was my favorite. There were many times during out data analysis portion that the client thought a certain field held a certain kind of data, but the tool demonstrated that there was a completely different sort of data in that field.

The whole analysis process went a lot faster because we were able to quickly step through each of Datiris Profiler’s screens to show them either the format or the specific data for each field. The plan is to continue use Datiris Profiler throughout the development of the data load routines to make sure nothing slips into the client data that we don’t expect.

“…start the process of sorting out sticky data integrity issues as soon as possible.”

Each time we bring a new client on board, we essentially load all their historical customer, product and transaction data onto our platform. Datiris Profiler allows us to quickly get some basic information about the data we receive, share that with the clients’ IT people, and head off any problems with missing data or unexpected values before the development process begins.

This is where metadata and actual data collide! Invariably, what they think they are sending us, and what they have actually sent us do not match up. Datiris Profiler lets us figure this out pretty quickly and start the process of sorting out sticky data integrity issues as soon as possible.
